CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —

The Port Aransas Police Department has obtained two warrants for 26-year-old Francisco Espinoza, who has been identified as the suspect in the Port Aransas beach shooting.

Espinoza is wanted for the murder of Kristopher Welder after police found him shot in the chest Monday night near mile marker 42.

A warrant was also issued for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for shooting a 19-year-old man from Alice in the stomach the same night.

Police say Espinoza is believed to have ties to Corpus Christi and Taft.

Anyone with information on his immediate location is urged to call 911.

The story below is before the update.

The Port Aransas Police Department is investigating a fatal late-night shooting that took place on the beach Monday night.

Officers were called out to mile marker 42 shortly before midnight to disperse a large crowd when they found a 22-year-old Ingleside man shot in the chest. Police say they called for backup and immediately began first aid on the shooting victim, later identified as Kristopher Wayne Welder, but he later died at a local hospital.

Six minutes after the initial incident, Port Aransas PD officers said they received 911 calls for gunshots heard at marker 27.

When officers arrived there, they found a 19-year-old Alice man with one gunshot wound to the stomach. An officer reportedly discovered that wounded man was moved from marker 42 by someone he knew.

He was also taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Detectives are currently looking for the shooter, who is described as a heavy-set, light-complected Hispanic man last seen driving a silver car, possibly a BMW, with dark rims.

Call 911 if you have any information.

The shooting remains under investigation at this time.
