Suspicious item found inside South Side post office

The CCPD Bomb Squad determined a suspicious item found inside a U.S. Post Office is not a threat.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) — Around 9 Saturday night CCPD received a call of a suspicious package inside a U.S. Postal Office on the 6000 Block of Weber.

After officers arrived, they determined the device looked suspicious and called out the bomb squad to investigate.

The area was blocked off as officials determined the device was not harmful. The bomb squad was able to safely take it out of the post office. Police described it as two batteries attached to an LED light. Capt. Dave Cook with CCPD said, "It certainly is not an explosive device, we would consider it a hoax device."

Cook added, "You have something that looks the way that item looked, we certainly would expect somebody to call us and let us deal with it, especially with today's environment and the many issues we've been experiencing recently with devices being mailed."
