Reminder: It is illegal to set off fireworks in Corpus Christi city limits

You can be fined for up to $2,000 if authorities find you with a package of fireworks within city limits.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Fourth of July celebrations are less than 24 hours away but before you go and set off those fireworks, the Corpus Christi Fire Department wants to remind you that you cannot set them on in city limits.

Fireworks, sparklers and any other items that can explode are not allowed within city limits. Not only is it against the law, but it can also cause a lot of damage if something goes wrong.

"But in an urban area like ours you get in here and you start shooting off bottle rockets and other various types of fireworks, and it's just a tremendous hazard," CCFD Assistant Fire Chief Randy Paige said. "It lands on leaves, it lands on vegetation, starts fires and spreads to houses and end up burning houses."

You can be fined for up to $2,000 if authorities find you with a package of fireworks within city limits.

If you need to report illegal use of fireworks in the city, you can call the non-emergency number at 361-886-2677.
