TAMUCC hosts 'Can-struction' competition for homecoming week

The winners, who will be announced on Wednesday, will receive $150.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Students with the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Student Volunteer Connection hosted a special "Can-struction" competition Tuesday.

Competitors were asked to design and build structures made entirely of canned food. 10 teams had just a five-foot by five-foot space to build their structure.

The friendly competition was held between different student groups and professors. The winners, who will be announced on Wednesday, will receive $150.

"This is our first year. We are trying to start a new homecoming tradition, and so we want to bring awareness that we have students with food insecurity here on campus," Student Activities Coordinator Brandon Mandigo said.

All the food items used on Tuesday will then be donated to Izzy's Food Pantry to help students on campus.
