Texas A&M Corpus Christi starts childhood safety program

Safety Compass will educate families on abuse, safety and trafficking

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A group of staff and students at Texas A&M Corpus Christi have started a program called Safety Compass.

With trafficking and abuse on the rise in the United States, this group is trying to prevent it from happening.

Safety Compass is designed for families and their children. The group will start meeting on May 31st, from 6 to 8 PM at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education Center.

Topics will include personal space, stranger awareness, safety and healthy relationship boundaries. Group leaders said they will teach these topics through games and activities.

"Parents are learning the more detailed background behind each of the topics we present, so they understand why we're doing this," Dr. Kristina Nelson with TAMU-CC said.

Families who attend will be treated to dinner and receive a Walmart gift card. Learn more at their website.
