Family and friends of 21-year old Christina Vaughn, who was run over Saturday night and died in the hospital from her injuries, gathered at a vigil and flag raising in her honor Wednesday morning at Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital.

It was Saturday when Vaughn got out of her vehicle on SPID to retrieve a mattress that had fallen out. That's when she was hit by a vehicle. She died from her injuries Monday night.

Police are still looking for the hit and run driver.

At Wednesday's vigil it was clear that everybody wanted one thing -- for the person responsible to come forward. Vaughn's fiancee spoke at the vigil.

"I can somewhat understand why you would run. You were freaked out. I understand," he said. "But whoever did this, if you have a heart or soul, we'll forgive you. Just turn yourselves in. Just give everybody some comfort. Y'all took whole life away."

The night of the hit and run, an eyewitness saw the driver of the car that hit Vaughn and described him as a man with dark skin. He had a female passenger. They were in a white sport utility vehicle with serious damage to the front end and deployed airbags.

As for the driver of the SUV, had he stopped and stayed at the accident scene, he wouldn't be facing any charges since Vaughn was in the middle of the freeway; but since he left and is not coming forward, he now faces a charge of accident involving personal injury or death, which is a second-degree felony.
