Calallen baseball looking to end state drought

The 'Cats last went to state in 2011, but feel like they have a shot to get through a stacked region.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coastal Bend baseball powerhouse Calallen isn't used to being an underdog, but that's exactly what the Wildcats have been the last few years.

The 'Cats have seen their season ended by the Sinton pirates in three straight seasons, twice in the region final and last year in the area round. Texas's all-time winningest baseball coach Steve Chapman says this year's squad has the depth to compete not only with the Pirates, but with the rest of the stacked region as well. Calallen might start the year ranked #6 behind #3 Sinton, but the 'Cats say they're to prove that have what it takes to get to state for the first time since 2011.

The 'Cats open the season down at the McAllen tournament February 22nd before hosting their tournament the following week. The brutal District 31-4A schedule gets started March 19th against Bishop.
