Texans rookie QB steps up, buys young fan replacement for stolen helmet

Her son's Texans helmet was stolen so she went to get him a new one. She had no idea who was about to step in to save the day.

HOUSTON — Every fan has their favorite piece of gear, and for 11-year-old Joseph Rodriguez, that was a Battle Red Texans helmet.

After it was stolen, Joseph's mother said she got some help from a star player to replace it.

"I wore it to mostly every single game," Joseph said.

Jennifer Pasillas said thieves stole the helmet after breaking into two of her vehicles.

"Last Thursday, we woke up to our cars being broken into. Two of our cars got broken into that day," Pasillas said.

She said that her son’s helmet was in one of the vehicles.

When she went to the Texans Team Store to get a replacement, she ran into star quarterback C.J. Stroud.

"I was starstruck," Pasillas said.

Pasillas said she asked for a photo but didn't expect what she heard next.

"I told him why I was there (and) he tells his rep, 'Tell her I’ll buy her the son’s helmet for her.' And, so like, I started crying. I Facetime him (Joseph) right away, he started crying," Pasillas said.

The young Texans fan couldn’t believe it.

"My heart was beating so fast, and I was, like, speechless," Joseph said.

The Texans went even further and had the helmet autographed. The family picked it up on Wednesday.

Pasillas said she’s extremely thankful for Stroud helping the family. She’s also excited to see the rookie star lead her family’s favorite team on a playoff run.

"We want to thank C.J. for taking the time to go above and beyond and showing not just my son -- you can be humble no matter what situation you’re in, thank you for being a great example to my son and to other kids out there," Pasillas said.
