On Earth Day, H-E-B will give 265,000 free reusable bags to customers across Texas.

Since 2008, more than three million reusable bags have been given out by the retailer for Earth Day.

The reusable bags are one of several efforts H-E-B makes throughout the year. It's part of their Our Texas, Our Future commitment mission of reducing the impact on the environment.

Another effort is through H-E-B’s Annual School Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge, where students from hundreds of classrooms across Texas collect thousands of pounds of plastic bags.

H-E-B said this year, they had a record-breaking 675 Texas schools collect more than five million plastic bags for the challenge. More than one million bags were collected this year than in 2023, according to the retailer. Two Coastal Bend schools in the Gulf Coast Region collected the most plastic bags and will be awarded H-E-B gift cards.

Gulf Coast Region Winners:

  • Linnie Roberts Elementary
  • Windsor Park Elementary
