ABILENE, Texas (AP) - Showers have been limited for inmates at two West Texas prisons as authorities investigate what caused a drop in water pressure.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice says the issue involves the Robertson Unit and the Middleton Unit, both in Abilene.

TDCJ spokesman Jason Clark says officials began to notice a drop in water pressure Wednesday afternoon.

The source of the water trouble remains unknown. Clark says he believes the problem is with the city. Abilene water utilities director Rodney Taylor says the issue apparently is on the prison system's side of the meter.

Clark said Friday that toilets are functioning at both prisons and there's plenty of drinking water and ice.

Showers and laundry service are limited. Water to some buildings was intermittently shut off to keep pressure up.
