New information has come out regarding the sudden resignation of Texas A&M University-Kingsville's former athletic director, 39-year old Brian DeAngelis.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, DeAngelis was arrested on Sunday at a Wal-Mart in southeast San Antonio for allegedly taking improper pictures of a 14-year old girl.
SAPD said DeAngelis is accused of using a cell phone camera to take pictures up the teen's dress. He was caught by the girl's mom.
Police said an officer was called to the store for a shoplifter, and instead he spotted DeAngelis running out of the store. He stopped him at his vehicle and noticed he had a cell phone.
That's when a woman came up and told the officer she saw DeAngelis standing close to her 14-year old daughter in the store with his leg extended. When they moved out of the way, the girl's mother saw a camera taped to his shoe. Her daughter was wearing a dress.
The mother became upset, and DeAngelis took off running. That's when the officer caught up with him. After searching the phone, the officer found images of a woman in her underwear.
In a phone interview, the person who originally placed DeAngelis on administrative leave after learning of his arrest, TAMUK's Vice President for Institutional Advancement Scott Gines, said "He told me he had been arrested. His charge was improper photography at a wal-mart in San Antonio, also in the presence of his spouse."
DeAngelis resigned from his position after just over six weeks on the job.
Until a new athletics director is named, Gines will step in and fill the position.
