CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Bee county is set to receive a $2.5 million emergency operations center.
Officials told 3NEWS the resource will be specifically tailored to the needs of the community in the event of natural disasters such as hurricanes or, as we've seen recently, frigid temperatures.
Bee County Emergency Management Director Ryan Garza said the facility will give the community the resources it needs to support public safety and response.
"[During] something like a chemical release or a hurricane, a civil unrest," Garza said. "The operating center gives us a facility to draw all of our responders under one roof, making decisions, for the people that are out."
Garza said the facility will hold roughly around 150 people at a time and will even have a kitchen and sleeping quarters to accommodate those who will be on scene during emergencies.
