Better Speech and Hearing Month| Local resources available for those experiencing hearing loss

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center is hosting an Open House event Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., where the public can learn more about available resources.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In honor of Better Speech and Hearing Month –the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center wants you to learn more about their community and discover more about cochlear implants and hearing aids.

First Edition reporter Madeline Salinas joined us LIVE Tuesday morning with an ENT specialist and a representative from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center to talk about what resources are available to those who may be experiencing hearing loss.

The center will host an open house this Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Dr. Andreas Kaden said that by the year 2030, 60 million people in the United States will have some degree of hearing loss. But --not to worry. Kaden says there is good news.

"Don't be isolated by your hearing loss, we have great options," he says.

There are plenty of locally available hearing aids that range in price from cheap and over the counter to more expensive, but extremely effective.

"If you can't hear at all and you've tried things out there and you're getting frustrated because you feel there's nothing to do, come see us, look up the options."

Dr. Kaden will give a talk at the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center this Thursday to talk more about cochlear implants and other hearing aid options.

"It is not the end of the world. You are not stuck having to read or use your phone all the time. Come see us, let us tell you about it."

Tom Burnside with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center wants you to take part in their upcoming open house celebration on Friday, May 10 to learn more about the resources available to you there.

Services include technology advocacy, children and senior programs, state programs and interpreter services.

The center serves 22 counties from Beeville to Laredo to Brownsville.
