CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Big Bloom Plant Sale at the South Texas Botanical Gardens is blossoming into action Saturday Apr. 6
The family-friendly event is expected to bring out as many as 5,000 people for shopping, learning about how to grow plants and experiencing the beauty of the Botanical Gardens. Admission is just $2.
We spoke with Dr. Michael Womack, the Gardens' executive director, who said the event is an opportunity for people to shop for plants and flowers that specifically thrive in Coastal Bend Gardens.
"We'll have master gardeners out here, as well as some of our staff and volunteers that are going to help you find plants that will work for your situation."
Womack said there will be butterfly and ladybug releases, a huge orchid sale, and animal ambassadors available to talk about important native creatures and critters with your kiddos.
"We also want people to come out and visit the Gardens, and to experience this unique place, with the mixture of nature and traditional garden landscaped areas.
The Big Bloom will take place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. for the general public. Members of the Botanical Gardens will be able to start shopping at 9 a.m. and enjoy the first picks of the flowers. Memberships will be available for purchase the day of the event.

ALL BIG BLOOM TRAFFIC will enter Country Creek Dr. & S. Staples SIGNAL LIGHT, down S. Oso Pkwy to Botanical Gardens back gate. Reverse for exit.
