CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Get ready to shake your tailfeather, Coastal Bend!

The 7th annual 'Birdiest Festival in America' is set to take wing next week at the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center beginning Apr. 24-28. Beginning birders and festival pros alike are invited to watch migrating birds make their annual spring migration back north through South Texas via the country’s busiest flyways.

You can buy tickets or try to register for the event here

The festival says that our pocket of South Texas is a hot spot for all wild birds, including coastal and shorebirds!  Last year, 233 registered birders sighted 268 bird species.

A number of birders are expected to make their way down to the Coastal Bend to see the mysterious Cattle Tyrant bird, spotted downtown late last year by our Bill Churchwell.

The species had never been sighted north of Panama before, and festival organizers say they are still unsure of how the little guy got here,

Seats are still available for attend trips, workshops, presentations and bird walks for those interested in learning more about birding. Attendees will have the chance to enjoy a South Texas BBQ dinner, Vendor Trade Show, Jonathan Wood Raptor Project presentation, artisan booths, and Saturday $2 admission Family Fun Day.

Basic Festival registration is $40, and guest badges cover all but separately priced field trips, workshops, dinners and speaker presentations.
