Calallen ISD names Reeve as new head football coach

Charlie Reeve was Victoria East's coach and athletic coordinator for the last two seasons.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — During a school board meeting Monday, Calallen ISD named Charlie Reeve as the Wildcats' new head football coach and athletic director.

Reeve comes to Corpus Christi after serving as the head football coach and athletic coordinator for the East Titans in his hometown of Victoria. The new Calallen coach went 8-4 in his lone season with the Titans including a bi-district round win.

Reeve also has college experience with stops at Texas State, UTSA and Houston Christian University in addition to being an analyst for the Houston Cougars and a grad assistant at Rice University. The school district was presented his name from the search firm "We Will Win Consulting."

The move to hire Reeve comes as after 3News broke the news in February that longtime coach Steve Campbell was retiring just two years after replacing his longtime friend and colleague — not to mention the winningest coach in Texas high school football history — Phil Danaher as Wildcats head coach. Campbell will retire in June after four decades with the district. He took over for Danaher in December of 2021 after his friend was forced to retire due to heath reasons.

The Wildcats' job was considered one of the highest profile ones in the viewing area by many and was wide open for the first time since 1984. The district will hold a meet-and-greet with its new coach Tuesday at 4:30 PM at the high school library.
