ROBSTOWN, Texas — Robstown Pickers baseball coach Elias Vasquez announced on Friday that he is leaving the baseball program after 27 years and 15 years as head coach.
He led the Pickers on a state tournament run in 2011 and to a co-district title last year, which included two wins over the rival Calallen Wildcats.
He was hospitalized during the Covid-19 pandemic, which put him in a coma for a month.
Vasquez shared a statement with 3NEWS:
Vasquez said he is not sure if he will also retire from teaching and coaching but will relinquish his duties as head baseball coach after this season.
