CCISD students share Christmas cheer alongside their peers

Grant Middle School students are excitedly preparing non-perishable goods for those in the community who need it most.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — ‘Share Your Christmas’ has been a tradition at KIII for 36 years. School districts and businesses collect non-perishable goods for the Coastal Bend Food Bank and raise thousands of dollars in donations.

Although we're weeks away from the food drive, Christmas cheer is already in the air. in CCISD. Grant Middle School students Bella Perez and Allison Escobar couldn't be happier to collaborate with other students to make sure this year's food drive is a success.

“It seems so cool," Perez said. "Helping the less fortunate around Christmas time and I feel really good about it and I think everyone else does so it’s a really good cause."

Escobar says it's a wonderful feeling to lend a hand for those in need.

“We hope that everyone at our school knows how important this is to us,” she said.

Principal Raymond Garza, says the school has a reputation to uphold.

“Last year we were able to donate a check of over $8,000," he said. "And what we did tell them is that out goal this year is $10,000, and our community is aware. And so we are working very hard to achieve that goal and I have no doubt we’ll make that happen.”

Another student commented, “Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those facing hunger.”

The 'Share Your Christmas' food drive takes place December 15th. The school with the most donations will get a prize! There are three categories for winners: small, large, and rural schools. This is your school's opportunity to win $800.

The winners will be announced December 15th during 3NEWS at 6.
