Coastal Contracting Summit lets smaller firms connect with city of Corpus Christi officials

The event let contracting business owners get a feel for what the city is looking for in a small business when it decides to award a contract.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Contractors and local small businesses gathered to meet with city of Corpus Christi officials at the American Bank Center for the annual Coastal Construction Summit.

Thirty of the Coastal Bend’s largest contracting bodies met in one space Friday to give small businesses the chance to see what the city needs in terms of construction help, and to learn how to do business with the city.

"We're trying to bring the overarching region together for this one event, but if you're looking to do business with the city, we're there every day, all the time," said city of Corpus Christi Asst. Director of Finance and Procurement Josh Chronley.

The city averages around 2,000 contracts a year.

Del Mar College's APEX Accelerators -- the group helps small business owners get their foot in the door when it comes to bidding with the city -- were also on-hand.
