Texas State Aquarium rescues around 125 cold-stunned turtles

The goal is to wait for warmer release conditions to return the turtles back to their original habitat.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas State Aquarium Wildlife Rescue team received nearly 125 sea turtles  from our recent cold snap to begin their recovery.

Wildlife Care Coordinator for reptiles Giovanna Pena said the goal—once conditions are right—is to release the turtles back to their original habitat.

"We kind of wait for the water temp to kick back up, mainly on a sunny day, just perfect release conditions, but yeah we'll keep them, we'll warm them up a little more, wait for perfect weather, and then maybe sometime next week would hope for a wonderful release so that we can send these guys back home," Pena said.

The majority of those turtles found on the Padre Island National Seashore.
