Corpus Christi Municipal Court brings justice closer to the community with monthly library event Saturday

Community Court aims to bring the court system to the people and allow residents to appear before the court at a more convenient time and location.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — This Saturday was the first edition of Community Court, a new initiative from the City’s Municipal Court that will be held at Corpus Christi libraries one Saturday a month.

When the court staff arrived early Saturday morning to open up, they were surprised to see a line of people already waiting outside!

Judge David Walsh said he is happy for the opportunity to help out the community and offer relief for those who have trouble getting off work during the week.

"We really just want to make it a little more approachable. We're almost the 'people's court.' We're the first experience most people have with the judicial system, and we want to make it a little more welcoming and easier for them to come and take care of their tickets," he said.

Municipal Court judges will be available to meet with community members who have pending cases, including:

    • Resolving Class C violations
    • Requesting Defensive Driving or Deferred Disposition
    • Setting up Payment Plans
    • Resolving active warrants

The next Community Court event will take place on Nov. 11 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Dr. P. Clotilde Garcia Public Library on Brockhampton.
