HALO-Flight hosts 31st annual 'Flights of Angels' golf tournament

The event raises funds to help take HALO-Flight's life-saving abilities to new heights.

PORTLAND, Texas — The community "teed off" for the 31st Annual Flights of Angels Golf Tournament for HALO-Flight at Portland's NorthShore Country Club.

HALO-Flight is a nonprofit emergency air ambulance service that helps transport critical patients throughout South Texas to the nearest hospital by helicopter.

Monday's tournament was presented by sponsor Flint Hills Resources. The event featured two flights, delicious eats and a variety of course contests and raffle prizes, all for those who showed up in support of their mission.

HALO-Flight Marketing Director Shannon Garcia says that with the organization being a non-profit, it's up to them to finance all of the things they need through events like these.

"You know, we want to be able to fly patients the fastest and safest way possible through our aircraft, with the best and highly skilled flight crews," Garcia said. "In order to do that, we have to raise funds."

Those funds will be used to help take HALO-Flight's life-saving abilities to new heights.

Organizers said their first goal was to sell out tickets for the event - which they did! Goal number two was to reach $175,000, and they were able to hit that amount before the end of the tournament.

Garcia thanked all of the volunteers, supporters and sponsors for their help lifting up HALO-Flight to better serve our community.
