Land purchased to prevent development near Naval Air Station-Kingsville

Money used to buy the land comes from state funds as part of the Texas legislature.

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The City of Kingsville has purchased 38 acres of land near Naval Air Station-Kingsville in an effort to keep businesses from building too close to the base and their runway.

Officials said it's a way to keep accidents from happening in case something goes wrong in the air and a pilot is forced to make an emergency landing.

"Which is a major issue across the country, and that way then we can be assured that no development will occur around the base," Director of Planning Tom Ginter said.
