Motorcyclist in fatal crash north of Mathis identified

DPS troopers said the driver of the trailer is okay. The crash is still being investigated.

MATHIS, Texas — Department of Public Safety troopers have identified the man killed in a motorcycle crash Monday night.

Troopers said 49-year-old Haskel Rouse of Mathis, Texas, died at the scene of the crash, which happened just after 8 p.m. Monday on FM 888 and the I-37 frontage road, just five miles north of Mathis in Live Oak County.

Authorities said a tractor semi-trailer was traveling north on the frontage road to I-37 when Rouse, who was driving the motorcycle, was travelling east on FM 888. The driver of the tractor trailer kept driving and Rouse was unable to stop, striking the trailer.

DPS troopers said the driver of the trailer is okay. The crash is still being investigated.
