City leaders estimate late summer completion for new aquatic center at Bill Witt Park

The aquatic center will include a ten-lane lap pool, recreational pool, slides and more!

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —

As the days pass, the Bill Witt Aquatic Center is getting closer to becoming a reality. Parks and Recreation Director Robert Dodd said the estimated completion date will be late summer of this year.

While that's still a few months away, Dodd said he's excited for the opportunities it will present for residents.

"Our other pools are used so much that, you know, it's going to free up some space at our other pools too," he said. "We have lap swimmers that come every day. We have people that visit our pools at Collier Park. That's a year-round pool as well."

The $10 million aquatic center will include a ten-lane lap pool, recreational pool, slides, play units and spray features. It will also have parking, seating areas and shade structures.

"These are improvements that the Southside needed," Dodd said. "They needed a pool in that area, so this will be a year-round facility for lap swimming and obviously times to take your kids to go enjoy the pool as well, so it's something that we're excited about."

He said the department looks forward to what the aquatic center will bring to the already lively park that has soccer and baseball fields and a hike and bike trail.

"Whether it be a park, or a gym facility or an aquatic center, I like to go out and see people enjoying themselves," he said. "I know it gives our team a lot of pride to know that we're bringing something to Corpus Christi."
