CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Anyone who plays golf is usually always looking to improve their game. Over at the Gabe Lozano driving range 3NEWS found plenty of folks doing just that.
Director Jay Monte said soon, they’ll have some help improving their swing thanks to a GPS driven high-tech device that will go online soon.
”The middle 28 bays in the driving range will have top tracer technology," Monte said. "You can like I said log onto the app on your phone and it’ll monitor your practice session, tell you how far you’re hitting the wedge, how far you're hitting the seven iron, you know, try to crank it out there how far you're hitting the driver.”
Monte says the course is busier than ever, spurred by the many improvements being made here.
Across the country, the National Golf Foundation says 26.6 million Americans played golf last year. That’s an increase of a million players.
"Golf has been very popular for the last few years I hate to say it but the pandemic kind of opened things up brought people outdoors,” Monte said.
The course is working to meet the demand as it’s getting ready to open its night time golfing venture. The lights are in place and you will be able to play the Firefly course all day until midnight beginning sometime in June.
3NEWS got an early preview of another big development for those who love to golf, 'Gon Golf'N.' It's located behind Outback Steakhouse. It’s going to feature five golf simulators, a sports lounge and a full bar and kitchen.
General Manager Albert Cantu says you can play any TCP golf course virtually with the Tiger Woods Full Swing system that's installed here.
”You can have parties here and have fun for hours," Cantu said. "You know with soccer being on there, also with the football and baseball but mainly the golf if you’re a golfer. We’ll actually have free golf lessons on Sundays.”
This newest entertainment option should be completed and ready for you to take your best swing sometime in June.
