'Opa!': Greek Festival Day 2 brings fun, shopping and food to the community

The second day of the festival offered crafts, jewelry, Greek coffee, church tours, and a raffle for the chance to win a Nissan Rogue for just $100.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The 60th Annual Greek Festival of Corpus Christi kicked of the second of its three-day festival at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on Saturday.

The festival featured a number of Greek musicians and dancers, including the award-winning Asteria Greek Dancers of Clear Lake. Festival organizers posted on social media throughout the day, showing off the many exciting events taking place. Festival attendees enjoyed a free crafting table with a Kid's Corner, Greek coffee, frappés and pastries, original brews from Nueces Brewing and more.

There was even an opportunity for early Christmas shopping at the festival's Greek market, which will continue to offer Greek jewelry, tea towels, mugs and more throughout the rest of the celebration.

A small number of Greek families came together over 100 years ago and ultimately founded the Greek community in Corpus Christi.

Those families established the city's annual Greek festival.  On Saturday, people had the opportunity to learn more about a cornerstone of the community as St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox offered church tours to discuss its history and faith.
