'Raise Your Voice' youth musical to debut at Harbor Playhouse this weekend

In Madeline Salinas' first live shot as our First Edition morning reporter, she introduced us to the cast of 'Raise Your Voice' at the Harbor Playhouse.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — First Edition viewers saw a new face this morning!  That's right, Madeline Salinas is our newest First Edition Reporter, Coastal Bend! For her first assignment, Madeline took us behind the scenes of the Harbor Playhouse's upcoming 'Raise Your Voice' musical, which is set to debut this Friday. Several youth performers will take the stage to show off their talents and entertain audiences.

The show will play on Fridays and Saturdays from Apr. 12-21.

Brayden Flores is a soloist in the musical, which features music from 'Guys and Dolls,' 'Oliver,' 'The Little Mermaid.' 'Mary Poppins' and more.

He first began his theater career after attending the Playhouse's youth summer camp sessions with director Josh Salinas and was even in 'A Christmas Carol' as a six-year-old in 2017. The talented singer says he has enjoyed performing in front of crowds and making them laugh ever since.

"I'm the type of person that loves giving back to my community. I love to put as many smiles on people's faces as possible, and that's where my love of theater [comes from]."

The cast has been rehearsing for the big show date for nearly three months, and director Josh Salinas told First Edition that audiences will be blown away by the kids' performances.

"The idea is not so much to give them an opportunity to perform, of course we want to do that, but it's just to make them just better people in general," said Salinas. "Kids, we underestimate the talents a lot of times, and these kids are amazing."
