CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Andres Tunchez Jr. was captured Jim Wells County Saturday evening.
The search for the Duval County jail escapee continued into the weekend.
Sheriff Romeo R. Ramirez posted an update to social media Saturday afternoon, informing the public that anyone assisting Tunchez avoid police will be criminally charged and prosecuted ''to the fullest extent of the law.''
Tunchez was incarcerated on Oct. 25 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The 32-year-old escaped police custody early Friday morning after complaining of feeling ill. He fled from corrections officers on foot immediately before entering a van meant to take him to the hospital.
Sheriff’s deputies, DPS highway patrol, officers from the Alice Police Department, and Jim Wells Sheriff’s Office, as well as the U.S. Border Patrol- Freer Sector searched the area where Tunchez was last seen Friday. Search efforts are being concentrated in the San Diego area.
According to Ramirez, local, state and federal agencies assisted with the search. Locals were asked to contact the sheriff's office with any information they believed may have been of significance.
