Shooting near Hancock and 12th streets sends a 60-year-old man to hospital Thursday night

Police identified the man believed to have committed the shooting Friday.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 60-year-old man is recovering Friday in a local hospital after being shot near the corner of Hancock and 12th streets in Corpus Christi on Thursday night.

Corpus Christi Police Department officers responded to the Uptown neighborhood at about 8:59 p.m. and found a man had been shot in the stomach.

A description was given of the shooter, who was said to be Hispanic with tattoos on his head. Police found a man matching the description walking nearby with a gun.

He was identified Friday as 34-year-old Infante Caldera.

Police said Caldera tried to run from them, and they found him trying to hide under a house at Buford Street and Brownlee Boulevard. He eventually was arrested and the gun was found under the house.

"The public is safe, the suspect is in custody, and we have recovered the firearm, so there is no danger to the public anymore,” said CCPD Gang Unit Lt. Braden Tackett on Thursday night.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

The 60-year-old was rushed to an area hospital for care, reportedly stable.

Caldera faces an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge and an evading arrest charge.
