SINTON, Texas — The San Patricio - Aransas County A&H Show is well underway with 'Show Week' kicking off Tuesday morning with homemaking entries!
At the fairgrounds in Sinton around 40 judges—including our own Leslie Adami— put their taste buds to the test for the food division. Just outside the doors more judges from the community were carefully grading other projects such as textiles and apparel, photography, art and much more.
Entries were divided up by different categories depending on what type of dish or pastry they were, which were all created by area students, from third to12th grade.
Food division co-chair Connie Seago told 3NEWS that the homemaking division is particularly special for any livestock or A&H show because it allows students who may not be showing an animal to be involved in their county show.
"Students who may not have the time or the extra funds or energy to raise a livestock project that requires six weeks to six months or more of work can enter this," Seago said.
She also explained how each student is able to take away several life-long lessons from all aspects of the A&H show.
"If you are entering baked items it helps prepare you for a life skill so whether it's talking about responsibility for a livestock project, going out and exploring your community to do photography or the other areas of our homemaking division - there is just so many skills that you learn that you're gonna carry on with you throughout the rest of your life," Seago said.
Food division chair, Tiffani Jurach, said the mission of these shows is near and dear to the hearts of organizers because several of them grew up with the show and are now in positions to help lead the new generation.
"I did the livestock show as a young kid and giving back in what was given to me has always been one of my main things in life," Jurach said. "I wanna give back to what was given to me."
