Second victim dies after 18-wheeler crashes into Texas DPS office in Brenham

Two people have died as a result of the crash. Twelve others were injured.

HOUSTON — A second person has died as a result of an 18-wheeler crashing into a Texas DPS office in Brenham, Texas, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.

The victim has been identified as Cheryl Turner, 63, of Brenham.

The other victim killed was identified as Bobby Huff, 78.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased,” DPS said in their social post.

Clenard Parker, 42, faces a felony murder charge along with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, one count of evading arrest or detention causing serious bodily injury and one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The DA’s Office has not yet announced any additional charges as a result of Turner’s death.

On April 12, Parker allegedly stole a big rig from Chappell Hill, which is about 15 minutes away from Brenham.

When law enforcement spotted the stolen big rig, they tried to stop Parker but said he took off and eventually crashed into the Texas DPS office in Brenham. At one point, Parker drove the big rig out of the DPS office and had intentions of crashing through the building again, but he was quickly taken out of the driver's seat by law enforcement and put in handcuffs, DPS reported.

The impact of the crash injured 14 people in total. Six of those 14 were taken to hospitals where one died the day of the crash. The other eight were treated on scene and released.

Parker was not hurt.

DPS said Parker drove the 18-wheeler into the Brenhan office the day after he was denied a Commercial Driver's License renewal.
