Thomas J. Henry in Corpus Christi to make formal naming rights offer for American Bank Center

Henry said he hopes if he does get naming rights, it will inspire the younger generations.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Attorney Thomas J. Henry flew into Corpus Christi on Wednesday to announce his offer of $12.5 million for naming rights of the American Bank Center.

OVG 360 was contracted to manage the American Bank Center by the city almost 3 years ago, and Henry said OVG 360 reached out to him two weeks ago about purchasing the naming rights for the convention center, but his offer has not yet been accepted by Corpus Christi city leaders.

American Bank currently has first right of refusal for the building's naming rights.

"Anybody wants to join in and get into a bidding war over the American Bank Center, let’s do it, ‘cause it'll help the citizens of Corpus Christi," he said.

Henry said he hopes if he does get naming rights, it will inspire the younger generations.

"Make more opportunities -- let there be more things on the horizon young people can see to encourage them to grow,” he said. “Naming rights for someone like myself -- I represent a lot of people who come from all walks of life. I think that could be helpful to some young people. Inspire some young people to go out and help other people in our community."

A news release sent out by Henry's representatives earlier in the week states his offer is $10 million more than what has previously been paid for the building’s naming rights.
