Norteño band Duelo cancels San Antonio show after band members hurt in car accident in Mexico

The group's bassist and drummer were treated and released from the hospital, with one requiring surgery.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two members of the musical group Duelo, which is scheduled to appear at the American Bank Center in May, were injured early Sunday morning as the norteño band left its sold-out show in Monterrey.

The band was making its way to Reynosa -- the Mexican border town across from McAllen -- en route to its scheduled appearance at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo concert Sunday night.

A story in the Monterrey-based newspaper Milenio states that four people were traveling in a Ford Escape when it turned over. The story doesn't say whether another vehicle was involved in the accident.

In an update for fans, the group's lead singer Oscar Ivan Treviño, updated fans on social media Monday, saying drummer Ivan Manuel Torres, bassist Pedro Flores and two staffers were hurt.

According to Treviño, Flores injured four lumbar vertebrae and required surgery. He was released and is at home recovering.

Torres' injuries were less severe, with injuries to his left arm and shoulder.

"God worked this miracle this weekend," Treviño said in Spanish in the post, alluding to the severity of the accident. "The boys are a little more stable, which is the most important part -- that the boys are OK."

It is unclear what, if any, effect the accident will have on the band's Corpus Christi appearance May 17 in support of its Evitame la Pena tour.

Duelo is a band based in the Rio Grande Valley city of Roma. According to its website, the group has been together since 1996 and are known for songs such as "Puño de Diamantes," "A Mi Me Gustas Tú," and "Malabares."
