Veterans Band of Corpus Christi awarded nearly $50K by Precinct 4

The band says they are excited about the donation and some of the money will go toward new uniforms and caps for the veterans.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Veteran's Band of Corpus Christi Is receiving a big donation for all of their hard work and service to our community and of course the nation.

Nueces County Precinct 4 awarded the band nearly $50,000 thousand dollars!

The band struggles with fundraising on their own because they simply don't have the time, and they keep busy out in the community doing various events - you've likely seen them at!

Commissioner Brent Chesney says it's impossible to put a dollar amount on the value of their service as they give so much to our community, but he's happy to be able to help in any way he can.

"I think they're worthy of ten times that. The things that these men and women have given to this community for the last 38 years. It's invaluable and the service that they gave to the country to make them veterans in the first place is invaluable," said Chesney.

Veterans Band musical director Ram Chavez said he's happy about the news.

"This will help us tremendously, so we don't have to scrounge and save and wait. If we had the funds, everybody would be wearing the same shirt today," Chavez laughed. "Those uniforms will be replaced and caps."
