Two George's Set To Re-Open

The former owners of the Corpus Christi sea food restaurant known as Two George's continue to be the subject of a police investigation.

The former owners of the Corpus Christi sea food restaurant known as Two George's continue to be the subject of a police investigation. This after dozen's of victims have come forward, claiming they had their credit over charged to the tune of nearly $300,000. So far police say, the former owners, Michelle Chapman and Jim Ovecka, have still not been seen or heard from.

Monday 3News learned the restaurant will be re-opening. Under a new name, new management and new desire to clear the name of the popular establishment. And who better to do that than the restaurant's original founder and owner, George Edwards. Long time residents of the Coastal Bend know Edwards.

The one and only original owner of Two George's Seafood Company who first opened up for business in 1993. Now in light of what's happened, he says it's time to come back.

"I'm now going to be calling it George's. An old story about that was the reason I called it Two George's, it was because when I first opened up there was a George's in Portland and so I thought he can be one and I'm two and it took off from there. Two George's and that's why I called it Two George's, says Edwards.

George Edwards says he wants to make it clear, there is no connection between the previous owners and himself.

"You know I thought about it Rudy, at first I didn't care about it and didn't think about it. But the more I kept listening to the news about Two George's I said 'that's my name, that's my baby I started' and I just couldn't let it go down the way it has," said Edwards.

So he worked out an agreement with businessman Leon Lobe who owns the property and now the ball is rolling. Edwards says he's ready.

"I plan on kicking up the product ok. I mean I'm gonna kick it up so many notches its unbelievable. I've got an executive chef that's coming in with me. Tim Burg in fact, he was the executive chef at the Kings Crossing when it closed," said Edwards.

Along with a new chef, new items to the traditional not available in our area. Oh the traditional George's favorites will still be there, sure to delight hungry customers.

George Edwards says we can look forward to a grand opening of the new "George's" in 30 to 45 days.
