CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Softball practices officially got underway Friday with one defending state champion looking to build towards a repeat in Austin.
The Calallen Lady 'Cats were out on the field for the first time for full practice as they look for a second consecutive 4A state title. Calallen took home the program's first championship last summer with a win over Liberty.
The Lady 'Cats have a majority of the roster back including four preseason all-stars, but Coach Teresa Lentz says it's not a championship level team right now, but hopefully will be come playoff time.
Calallen opens the season on the road at Victoria East on Tuesday, February 13th before returning home later in the week for their host tournament.
