CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Flour Bluff Hornets will be running in the 4x400 relay at state this week. The team is anchored by Zach DeWalt, who is widely considered the fastest kid inside the city limits.
But DeWalt had a hamstring injury that kept him out of both the 100 and 200 meter dash, both of which he was expected to qualify in and in the case of the 200, likely would have won gold. The Hornets say DeWalt missing out on his individual events makes them want to send him off to Air Force in style in what will be the final race of his high school career.
Flour Bluff also has Cameran Dickson going in the 5A Long Jump Friday. G-P and Veterans Memorial are also well represented in Class 5A and another big storyline to watch is in 2A where the Refugio boys and girls are both looking to repeat as state champs and Ernest Campbell will be looking to make it four gold medals in four years in the 100 meter dash.
