Flour Bluff relay team, Vets' Zamora punch ticket to UIL state track meet

Flour Bluff High School won the 4x400 relay and Temoc Zamora of Veterans Memorial qualified by finishing second in hurdles.

SAN ANTONIO — A slew of local track athletes have reason to celebrate -- they will be heading to Austin to compete in the UIL State Track & Field Championships.

Flour Bluff High School won the 4x400 relay at the regional track meet in San Antonio Saturday. Despite several Flour Bluff runners nursing injuries and pulling out of other events, the quartet of Austin Villanueva, Elijah Gonzales, Owen Aggus and Zach DeWalt took home gold. They were the only Coastal Bend runners to win their event at regionals.

Temoc Zamora, a Veterans Memorial High School junior, still had plenty of reason to celebrate though. His second-place finish in hurdles also punched his ticket to Austin to compete for a state title. The top two finishers in each event qualify.

The UIL State Track & Field Championships will be held May 2-4 at Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium at the University of Texas.
