Tuloso-Midway Boys Basketball game brings Holiday cheer with toy donations and Christmas sweaters

T-M Head Coach Tres Garcia said they usually get about five or six bags full of toys and they are usually donated to Driscoll Children's Hospital.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Tuloso-Midway Boys Basketball hosted Santa Gertrudis Academy Friday night and the game had a unique holiday twist.

It is an annual tradition for T-M this time of year to feature a toy drive and some festive outfits. The idea came from T-M Head Coach Tres Garcia to have a Toys for Tots game and Christmas sweaters before tip-off.

Garcia started the Toys for Tots game back when he was head coach at Kingsville King. At Friday's game against SGA, people who donated got in for free.

He said they usually get about five or six bags full of toys and they are usually donated to Driscoll Children's Hospital. T-M plans to drop them off on Sunday.

As for the Christmas sweaters, both teams were warming up in them. Garcia said it makes a fun atmosphere for everyone.

He also explained the toy drive is a chance for his team to help kids across the Coastal Bend.

"It's just trying to teach these young man how to grow up and be responsible men and, and understand that, you know, some people aren't privileged like others are and they may not get a chance to have a great Christmas," Garcia said. "That's what Christmas is all about. We're all trying to help each other be there for each other and love one another."
