Arrest made in road rage incident that ended with shots fired Thursday morning

CCPD officers were able to view video from the victim’s dash camera, which recorded the entire incident.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi police arrested 22-year-old Aaron Jasso Thursday for shooting into another driver's vehicle during a road rage incident.

Officers received a call around 8 a.m. that reported gunshots were fired near Horne Road and Naples Street after a traffic accident happened in the area. Upon their arrival, CCPD spoke with a 38-year-old man who identified himself as the victim of the incident.

The man told police that he was traveling south on Ramsey Street when he noticed a maroon van tailgating him. He then said he sped up to get away from the vehicle when the van passed him on Horne Road.

The victim tried to drive away after the accident but was pursued by the van before both drivers came to a stop near Horne and Dinn Streets.

Police said Jasso, the driver of the van, suddenly pulled up in front of the man's vehicle and braked, which caused the man to strike the van with his car. Jasso then exited his vehicle and approached the man's car with a pistol in his hand.

The 22-year-old reportedly banged on the victim’s window several times while pointing a gun at him. Jasso then shot at the hood of the victim's car several times as he walked back to his van before driving away. The victim of the road rage incident was unharmed.

With the help of dashcam footage obtained from the victim's car, CCPD tracked down Jasso's vehicle and arrested him later that morning. The weapon Jasso used in the incident was also recovered during his arrest.

Jasso now faces two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
