Blood drive for four-year-old girl brings Robstown community together

Alice Flores was diagnosed with a rare heart abnormality before she was even born.

ROBSTOWN, Texas — The Robstown community rallied together Monday and hosted a blood drive for a special four-year-old girl.

Alice Flores was diagnosed with a rare heart abnormality before she was even born. Since her birth she has had to undergo a series of surgeries to survive, and she is about to undergo another open-heart surgery after Easter.

That's why people lined up Monday at Robstown High School to donate blood.

"You could definitely be saving their lives, as much as you feel like a little bit of blood won't matter, but it definitely does go a long way," said Kayla Alejandro, Alice's cousin.

Flores will need blood transfusions throughout her next surgery as doctors work to close a hole in her heart.
