CCPD Deputy Chief writes children's book to inspire his granddaughter

Author, Anthony Sanders says 'A Journey for Jurnee' highlights some of the good things officers do on a daily basis, while also discussing accountability.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A new book has hit the market offering a new perspective of what it's like working in a rewarding yet dangerous job, policing. Anthony Sanders who serves as deputy chief for the Corpus Christi Police Department wrote 'A Journey for Jurnee' for his two-year-old granddaughter to shed light on a profession that makes complex decisions every day.

Sometimes a single page can turn your perception. For deputy chief and author Anthony Sanders, chasing perspective isn’t a race in his children's book.

“[It's] going on a journey and trying to highlight some of the good things we do on a daily basis.”

Every journey has peaks and valleys.

“I use my powers to help people," he said. “We talk about the superpowers that we have. And sometimes, they haven’t been used correctly. Some of these things are public and the community holding us accountable.”

Deputy Sanders understands that kids are curious about the world around them.

“They see the cartoon, they see the different illustrations in it," Sanders said. "And it makes it fun for them. So you’re blending in, and you’re weaving in factual pieces. But you’re telling a story at the same time.”

Sanders two-year-old granddaughter Jurnee will always be curious about his journey on the force.

“I just want her to have the facts and to be able to think for herself and make her own decision.”

To learn more about Anthony Sanders' book 'A Journey for Jurnee' it is available now for $24 at Daisy Publishing, which is named after his grandmother.
