CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The SkillsUSA competition continues in Corpus Christi with students going over to Del Mar College's Windward Campus on Friday for a diesel equipment technology challenge.
For this competition hosted by DMC's Diesel Applied Technology Program 19 students rotated between 13 stations, performing hands-on skill tests focusing on shop, electrical systems, hydraulics and more!
3NEWS caught up with a former Del Mar student Sharil Gonzalez who shared with us how fulfilling it is to see these students at their young age show an interest in these promising careers.
"It's good to see what the kids are interested in seeing we still have a chance on the young people interested in the heavy equipment," Gonzalez said. "It's good for them to do the basic stuff, get their foot in the door, see what they can do get more practice."
Dean of Del Mar College's Workforce Programs Dan Korus said events like SkillsUSA helps train future leaders and skilled workers in the workforce.
