Electric school bus takes Corpus Christi on a trip to the future

The Texas Electric School Bus Project is working to make all school busses electric.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — We're all used to seeing electric vehicles on the road by now, but have you ever seen an electric school bus?

Turns out they're more common than you think and blend in with the rest of them.

3NEWS spoke to officials with the Texas Electric School Bus Project who made a stop right here in town as part of their 'South Texas Electric Vehicle Road Show.'

The project is working to make all school busses electric.

The Lone Star State has the largest school bus fleet in the nation at 50,000 busses and even carries the title of the energy capitol of the country!

Co-founder and Director of Texas Electric School Bus Project Jessica Keithan said the organization hopes they can show kids the future.

"To show people the reality you know when this pulls in you don't hear it, you don't smell it and you show kids that this bus this has been the same for so many years, it's part of the ethos of America," Keithan said. "It can be really transformative on so many levels and not just for kids in the big cities but kids from Corpus Christi to Abilene to Beaumont and everywhere in between."
