Scam alert: Caller posing as Nueces County sheriff deputy demands payment, claims victim has warrant for arrest

The police department and the sheriff's office say residents should never give out any personal, banking or credit card information over the phone.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Police Department has been made aware of a phone scam making its rounds across Nueces County.

Detectives reported cases of a caller posing as a deputy with the Nueces County sheriff's office and claiming that there is a warrant for the arrest of the person they are calling. The scammer then demands payment from the victim.

Scammers have even used real names from county employees to try to scam the public. Please do not give them any personal information.

CCPD and the sheriff's department want you to know they will never call you to inform you of a warrant or ask for payment.

Officers want to remind county residents to never give out any personal, banking or credit card information over the phone or even online.

If someone calls you, just hang up.
