Spay your ex! ...Well, a cat named after your ex

Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary is putting a spin on their Trap, Neuter, Release program this Valentine's Day season.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Typically you leave your ex in the past and never look back...

In the spirit of Valentine's Day — whether you are celebrating with a significant other or not — Edgar and Ivy's Cat Sanctuary is now offering the chance to name a cat after an ex, which will be fixed and released back into the wild.

The service, which aims to help reduce the number of stray cats in Corpus Christi, is $50 and covers the cost of surgery.

Director Anissa Beal and Outreach Coordinator Jordan Wilcox explained the process to 3NEWS,

"We trap the cat -- you don't have to do anything," Beal said. "You send in a $50 donation, it's a form that you fill out."

"I will include a picture that says your (stray) has been sponsored and then a picture of the cat that you helped trap with the ex's name at the bottom, as well, and send it to the ex if they want them to," Wilcox said.

Ex-mother in laws, ex-boyfriends, and even ex-coworkers, are all allowed during this promotion.

The process will be recorded on video just in case you want your ex to know that you were thinking about them.
