SURVEY: What restaurant or store would you like to see in Corpus Christi?

Have you always wanted a Panera close by? How about a Costco or a Pei Wei? Now's your time to make it known in a new Visit Corpus Christi survey.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Is there something you think the city of Corpus Christi really needs? Maybe there is a restaurant you really wish would open here or a big box store. Well, Visit Corpus Christi wants to hear from you.

Visit Corpus Christi has released its new resident development survey, which wants to know things such as which restaurants and grocery chains people would like to see in Corpus Christi.

The survey launched online Monday and is open through May 13.

It came about after a 3NEWS Facebook post went viral with residents chiming in about which restaurants they wish were already here. Visit Corpus Christi took notice.

“Our goal is ultimately to build a community where people want to be,” Brett Oetting, President and CEO of Visit Corpus Christi, said in a statement. “Whether that means visiting, living, working or retiring in Corpus Christi, we are continuing to listen and act."

To "act" means once Visit Corpus Christi gets this information, they will go to those restaurants or retailers and show them the survey data and tell them that people are clamoring for their business to come to town. They would know they would have built-in support from Day 1.

It could also help existing businesses in a variety of ways. For example, if the survey showed Pappasito's Cantina was a popular request, Visit Corpus Christi could help better highlight locally-owned options that could serve that need -- like El Camino Comida & Bar.

“Even busy, well-run restaurants exist with very thin margins and very little room for error. Any market insight we can gain from future customers is extremely valuable in creating viable, long-lasting concepts,” said Richard Lomax in a statement. Lomax is,a Corpus Christi resident and owner of Water Street Restaurants, which includes El Camino, Water Street Oyster Bar and several others.
