CCPD: Move over or get pulled over

During the two-hour enforcement operation police issued 36-tickets for failure to move over and impounded one vehicle.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi police and Apollo Towing sent an urgent message out Monday night -- move over, for their emergency vehicles or get pulled over.

The Corpus Christi Police Department was conducting a special enforcement effort Monday morning which led to dozens of people received tickets for failing to follow Texas law requiring drivers to move over to the next lane for all emergency vehicles or if that's impossible slow down to 20-miles an hour under the speed limit.

The law covers ambulances, police cars, fire trucks and tow trucks.

"It began with police and fire and ambulances and then expanded to TxDOT vehicles. And now it's expanded to the towing industry. And we hear that it could expand in the next legislation in 2020," Michael Staff said.
