Update: 16-year-old girl fatally shot in Annaville area Friday night identified

Corpus Christi police officers said all involved parties have been identified and questioned, and they are actively investigating the shooting.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Police found 16-year-old Deandrea Anissa Valdez with a gunshot wound Friday night before taking her to a nearby hospital where she later died. She was a student at Tuloso-Midway ISD. 

Valdez is being remembered by friends and family Monday night at a candlelight vigil taking place at West Guth Park.

CCPD officers began investigating the shooting death, which took place over the weekend in Jackson Woods near Annaville . 

Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Hardwood late Friday night in reference to the shooting. 

At 10:45pm, they arrived and located the injured Valdez before immediately beginning to provide medical aid. Medics arrived and transported the teen to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.  

Senior Officer Jennifer Collier said homicide detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division arrived and began their investigation. All parties involved have been identified and questioned. Corpus Christi police said the shooting was not a random act of violence and all individuals involved were known to each other. 

According to CCPD, this is an active and ongoing investigation.
